Bottled Water is Extinct!
Posted in Current Affairs, Information on July 9th, 2009 by Govaner – Be the first to commentI often see people buying bottles of water, whether it be in glass or plastic bottles, and think to myself ‘why spend the money!’ No one is going to turn down someone a glass of water on a hot day.
A town in Australia, Bundanoon has taken my plight one step further by banning bottled water. What an advancement for society!
Campaigners in the area have declared the ‘first community in the world…’ and good on them I say.
One of the key reasons for the ban was the locals outrage that a well known drinks company announced plans to tap a underground reservoir and take the water to Sydney, and then bring it back in bottled form, a waste of time in their minds.
John Dee a local campaigner issues this statement.
‘It made people look at the environmental impact of bottled water and the community has been quite vocal about it. We believe Bundanoon is the world’s first town that has got its retailers to ban bottled water, We haven’t found it anywhere else.’
The ban is surprisingly being supported by shopkeepers in the town, which has a population of about 2,500.
Locals however have been warned not to jump visitors to the town if they don’t adhere to the new rules, with provisions already in place: Water Fountains on the main street. With reusable bottles bearing the slogan ‘Bundy On Tap’.
The New South Wales Premier, Nathan Rees is backing the scheme fully even going to the extreme of banning government departments from buying bottled and instead using tap water.
…it will save taxpayers money and help the environment and help to combat climate change.
Hopefully more governments and people around the world will aim for the standard that Bundanoon is currently setting, and in the words of someone ‘together we can do it’.
