How to Save Money on Fuel

As the price of fuel increases the most sensible way of countering this is to use your fuel more effectively. It seems that in my lifetime the cost in relative terms has shot up dramatically. Unnecessary wastage of fuel can cost money and lead to a nice problem financially come the end of the month.

Here are a few great tips to help you save money for your fuel and not to let the budget be down at the end of the month.

  • Do not use a car if you can easily walk to the destination. For many of us we use our vehicles when actually it would be better just to walk. As a child I remember watching people drive to the local shop, which was only 300 metres away. Slightly embarrassing.
  • Make sure you drive at an average speed. Erratic driving in terms of speed will consume a lot more gas than if you drive sensibly for the whole journey.
  • Make sure your tires are inflated to the correct PSI. Under-inflated tires may cause you to use extra fuel. So make sure they are inflated correctly.
  • Making sure your engine is clean by servicing it regularly will increase the engines performance and mean you save a few quid on petrol.
  • Don’t overload the vehicle as this will mean the engine will have to work harder to get you to your destination. As you can quite probably guess this will impact the amount of fuel used.

For the majority of us these are fairly unsubstantial changes to make to our lifestyle and car and perhaps even a couple of them will encourage people to lose a few pounds by walking. However I thoroughly do not recommend walking in the ice or for that matter driving in the ice as its also pretty dangerous and as Gwyneth Paltrow found out you might just have to swap contact details with a member of the public. All in all, following these tips should prove a sound investment in the New Year!
