This is Kevin and Julie Fitzpatrick and the phrase ‘hardcore fans’ can be literally applied to them. Hailing from hip and happening Preston in Lancashire, this ordinary couple were brought together 40 years ago by the idol that is Neil Diamond.

Terry Wogan on his Radio 2 show asked his listeners to bid for the ‘prize of a lifetime’ in the form of a ‘Christmas Dinner’ with none other then Neil Diamond at his beach side condo in Malibu. Kevin started the bidding at $5,000 and was quickly pipped so decided to increase his bid until the final amount of $27,000, which secured him and his wife dinner with the world famous star, to help Children in Need.

Julie and Kevin spent the entire sum of their lifelong savings on this dinner.
