Kinect? Move or Just Apathetic?

Its rare that I have enough time to sit down and play a games console on my own or even with my friends. I guess this is because I work too hard at my job or I simply can’t be bothered to get onto my knees and turn the ruddy thing on.

A while ago whilst doing some product testing for a well known mobile phone provided I made friends with a chap called John Hood. It even turned out we both lived in the city and felt similarly about the product we where testing. I believe John still uses it.

A while back I had an idea that John could write a guest post for The Whole Truth on the new games console peripherals which are coming out soon. These are the Microsoft Kinect for the XBox 360 and Playstation Move for you guessed it: Playstation 3.Now,  as I said earlier I really don’t have much clue about technology matters I thought it simply best just to had over to John for his guest post…

During this upcoming holiday season, Microsoft and Sony will both release their belated ripostes to Nintendo’s game-changing Wii console. Not new consoles, but add-on peripherals backed by high profile advertising campaigns with the likes of Coca-Cola.

Kinect and PlayStation Move will be available in a variety of bundles – some of which are going to confuse (and exploit) consumers. For example Sony has yet to announce a PlayStation Move bundle that includes all the peripherals required to take full advantage of the technology.

I’m most interested in replaying Heavy Rain: Move Edition: the gameplay lends itself to an immersive motion control experience. Whether or not that justifies a further investment of £100 (including Move, Subcontroller, Eye Camera and charging station) is open to debate! However, as with Heavy Rain, many first and third-party games will receive downloadable patches to exploit Move. Dead Space 2 might just be the killer application to entice enthusiast gamers, and there’s the derivative Sports Champions for everyone else.

In view of the ongoing economic crisis, Nintendo’s Wii undercuts both rivals by a significant margin out-of-the-box. Of the two new platforms competing for your cash: Move, a solid halfway house between Wii and Kinect, is the easier sell.

Tempted by Kinect, Move or are you apathetic?
