Live Blogging

Liveblogging is a very interesting phenomenon. Essentially it is just writing down information at the conference or meeting you are in attendance. Almost similar to taking a notebook and a pen, but with the added bonus that if you are a well respected person, potentially millions of people are going to be able to see and comment on the information you are receiving/inputting.

With the majority of people in either work or play owning a laptop, the only problem which can be attributed to actually liveblogging is the possible lack of an internet connection.

3G has been around for a few years and the connection nationwide is getting stronger and stronger which means for the purpose of liveblogging a mobile broadband device such as a dongle is essential. This is down to in major conferences there is a WI-FI connection generally, but imagine the pressure that specific network would be under should 500 of the conferences 550 people decide to ‘tap in’ too the network?

As you can see from the above photo Todd on the left clearly has something interesting going on.

You can generally pick up dongles for cheap If you do not already own one. I have noticed a lot in the local second hand store and with the great deal of free SIM cards floating around the internet, becoming ‘connected’ can be simply as easy as paying for a top up.

Away from everything else I am currently doing a product trial for another potentially great liveblogging tool : Mi Fi some findings which I have made on the product are availiable on my “Product Review” page (click the link). This would be definitely useful should you be travelling to a conference with a small group of people who are all ‘set’ on liveblogging the ideas which have come out.

All in all – I have never live blogged any conference due to the fact I have never been, however I would quite like to give it a try!

Moving On in the New Year

First and Foremost Happy New Year to all the readers of The Whole Truth. We hope you all had a a great night and your heads are still not hurting like my head did on Sunday morning. Obviously this wasn’t thanks to Thursdays festivities!

Generally at the start of a New Year we all look at things with fairly fresh eyes and will start too make big plans for the upcoming year citing what we would like to achieve by the end of the year. Logic of course dictates that is a ‘lovely’ idea, but perhaps not many of us will see through the entire years goals.

Debt for many is a horrible way to enter the New Year and unfortunately thanks to the ‘want it all’ attitude of many its a predicament that they perhaps will enter into and perhaps never leave.

Spending on a Credit Card is in theory a good idea but in practice, unless you are paying it off completely each month, it can turn into a fairly nasty product. As maybe I have found out in the past!

Listed below are a few excellent ideas as to how to sort out some post Christmas financial worries and even a few ways of actually put money aside as savings.

1. Make your debt interest free

Often it’s the interest you pay on your debt that causes the problems rather than the debt itself. Making your debt interest-free allows you plough through the actual debt rather than constantly just paying off interest. There are two ways you can do this.

The first is to switch your balance to 0% credit card. This is best done using a comparison site and picking the deal which you are eligible. Many sites will offer excellent deals and it simply is about picking the best for you!

2. Cut back

I know this one sounds obvious and not at all easy. What if I told you you could save over a thousand pounds a year just by making one tiny change to your working day? Try making your own lunch for work. Most of us spend $5 each working day buying lunch and coffee, but think of all that cash you’d save if you just made your own. It can just be leftovers from last night’s dinner or a quick sandwich – it’s really worth that little bit of effort.

3. Switch and Save

The New Year is the perfect time to look at your energy bills and your insurance policies to make sure you’re getting a good deal. Energy supplier comparison site Energy Helpline, says that people save on average $378 a year by switching supplier. And with insurance, if you have been with the same company for a while it’s likely you’re missing some of the best new offers out there usually only made available to new customers. To compare policies, head to a comparison site .

4. Make money from your junk

Another perfect thing to do in January – have a good clear out. One man’s junk is another man’s treasure, so make yourself a bit of extra cash from all your unwanted stuff. If you’ve got any old mobile phones lying around for instance, you can recycle them for cash. Not only will you be helping the environment, you’ll be making money too. Try sites like Mopay, or if you’ve got an old iPod to recycle you can do that at Bananagreen.

5. Make money from your home

If your debt is desperate then a great way to make some extra money to throw at it is by using your home. You can rent out your driveway for instance – especially lucrative if you live in a commuter area. Simply advertise it for free on parkatmyhouse.com. Or, you can rent out your spare room – and make up to $4,250 a year completely tax-free! Once again, advertise for free on sites like spareroom.co.uk.

Some great tips I hope you will agree!

Damn Irritating Family Award

My Award for the Most Irritating Family of the ‘Noughties’ goes to Richard, Verona and Rachelle Strauss of Langhope, Gloucestershire. Until yesterday I had never heard of them and probably until today you will not either.

The reasoning for this award for this fairly normal looking family is down in part to their obsession with all things recycling and ‘eco’. Their biggest accomplishment this years was apparently only filling 1 dustbin in an entire year.

With Climate Change on everyone’s agenda coming into the New Year, is it time we spend a little bit more of our time looking into and actually participating in green schemes in the next year and forever more?

The reason for their success in winning this title from The Whole Truth is down in part to the fact that I don’t enjoy my daily reading of the Daily Mail being interrupted by such wussy stories, especially over Christmas.

If you would like to look at this family in a completely different like I recommend checking out the report in the Daily Mail which is available here
