Spawning and Yawning
I was very excited a few years ago when the brochure for my old mobile phone told me I could use it as a portable modem type device. This was something that I was sure would be the best thing since sliced bread and would mean that in my new ‘digs’ I could happily surf the net (who uses that terminology any more?)
The truth is that these phones which offered this type of capability spawned the mobile broadband dongle that we know today. It would be interesting to know how many people actually managed to get a (decent) connection to the internet, I don’t want to speculate but im pretty sure given my case that not many actually did.
So the frame work was born for a small, kind of strange device which allowed you to connect to the internet at fairly good speeds, how ever there seems to be a big problem for the networks as it appears : Dongles are putting strain on over used data networks. For a full description of a dongle for the less techy amoungst us visit here.
Ah so a generation is born; connecting to the internet whilst sat in the park, or even in the pub, seems good to me…
