Stop Eating Meat! Maybe they have a point…
OK, so how many people do you know who are vegetarians? Are you generally frustrated when it comes to hosting say some people over for tea and one of the buggers is a veggie, and simply cannot touch meaty food? It is kinda frustrating. Much like the great TV show ‘Come Dine With Me‘
However news this week actually suggest that eating meat could be damaging that planet in ways which we cannot comprehend. Lord Stern told the Times this.
Meat is a wasteful use of water and creates a lot of greenhouse gases. It puts enormous pressure on the world’s resources. A vegetarian diet is better.
Interestingly Lord Stern is not actually a Vegetarian, however his view is completely backed by the Vegetarian Society, who said this:
What we choose to eat is one of the biggest factors in our personal impact on the environment. Meat uses up a lot of resources and a vegetarian diet consumes a lot less land and water. One of the best things you can do about climate change is reduce the amount of meat in your diet
Personally Climate Change is something I am interested in as with no doubt do I believe something needs to be done ASAP. However as a meat eater myself, I would find it difficult to give up meat. However the sheer cost of meat means that despite my strange enjoyment of exotic meats I simply do not have the savings, however could this be the time to switch and save and move over to meat, as frankly It seems to hold up to a great idea.
