The Choice is Endless
For some the idea of buying either a massive motor home or a caravan are dreams that can be fulfilled by a simple case of transferring some money from a bank account into another, then either personally choosing or sending someone to choose for you.
The rest of us however might have a dream, a distant hope that one day we might even own essentially a big car with a small house attached. Personally one of mine is to travel around the world in a campervan and then stop of at all the destinations I want and stay over night and probably get very drunk.
Campervans come in a varying selection of styles, shapes and prices, the trick however is to find a campervan to suit the need you are fulfilling and to avoid overspending and horribly breaking the budget on the thing.
Then comes the problem with handling as smaller vans perform a lot more like a car, except for being raised a fair way of the floor. Bigger vans tend to be harder to drive, obvious considering the size. If you have never driven a big vehicle such as a HUGE motorhome. It’s probably worth giving it a go before you buy one and realise that actually the experience scared you witless.
A high top is basically a camper van conversion with a specially made high fixed roof. These come in several lengths, short, medium and long. These sizes refer to the wheelbase, which is distance between the front and rear axle. Motorhomes with an average wheelbase are popular hire choices as they are easier to handle than the long wheelbase versions, whilst still offering a good degree of comfort. Various companies also offer motorhome van hire with folding roofs. The above kinds of motorhomes are often referred to as camper vans.
You can also pick up “C Class” campers:
Coachbuilt motorhomes (C class) are usually a lot larger than campers and are more like a house on wheels. Most will have all comforts of home and often a double bed. Several of the designs have a bed area which sits over the top of the drivers cab. These campervans can be luxurious to run and hire.
